Baby Ear Flap Hat

Baby Earflap Hat Baby Ear Flap Hat1

This baby ear flap hat crochets up quick. The pattern instructions are given for only one size, but you can make a smaller or larger hat, by using different sized yarns. Another option to make it smaller or larger is to use hdc or tr stitches instead of dc stitches for the shells. I have not tried that, but it is worth a try.

The yarn used is Bernat Cottontots, which is a 100% cotton yarn, and it is extra soft for the precious little ones.

Material: Bernat Cottontots 1 3oz./85g ball.
Hook size: G/6-4.25MM
Finished Circumference Measurements: Measures approximately 14.5"-15" in circumference.

Special Stitch Instructions:

Shell: 7 dc in st or ch indicated.

Beg Shell: Ch 3, 6 dc in same st or ch indicated.

Ch 4, join with sl st to form ring

Rnd 1: Ch 1, 2 sc into each ch. Join with sl st.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, *ch 3, sk next st,** sc in next st, repeat from * around ending at **. Join with sl st.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, shell in center ch of next ch-3, *sc in next st, shell in center ch of next ch-3, repeat from * around. Join with sl st.

Rnd 4: Ch 6 (counts as dc and ch 3), dc in same st, *ch 1, (sc, ch 3, sc) in center dc of next shell, ch 1,** (dc, ch 3, dc) in next sc st, repeat from * around ending at **. Join with sl st.

Rnd 5: Sl st into center ch of next loop, beg shell, *sc in ch-1 sp, shell in next ch-3 loop, sc in next ch-1 sp,** shell in center ch of next ch-3 loop, repeat from * around ending at **. Join with sl st.

Rnd 6: Sl st into center dc of shell, ch 1, sc in same st, *shell in next sc st,** sc in center dc of next shell, repeat from * around ending at**. Join with sl st.

Rnd 7: Beg shell, *sc in center st of next shell,** shell in next sc st, repeat from * around ending at **. Join with sl st.

Repeat rnds 6 and 7 another 2 times, (for a slightly taller hat repeat rnd 6 once more). Do not fasten off, continue with first flap.

First Flap:

Rnd 1: Sl st into center dc of shell, *ch 1, sc in same st, (shell in next sc st, sc in center dc of next shell,) 3 times. Turn.

Rnd 2: Sl st into center dc of shell, ch 1, sc in same st, (shell in next sc st, sc in center dc of next shell,) 2 times. Turn

Rnd 3: Sl st into center dc of shell, ch 1, sc in same st, shell in next sc st, sc in center dc of next shell. Turn. Do not fasten off, continue with string.

String: Sl st into center dc of shell, ch 30, sl st into back loop of second ch from hook and in each ch, join with sl st to corresponding st on hat. Fasten off for the first string, but do not fasten off for the second, but continue with edging after both strings have been made.

Second Flap: With right side of hat facing, attach yarn to center dc of the next shell that has not been worked into. Then follow instructions given for the first flap, beginning at rnd 1 at the first *.

Edging: Turning the work with right side facing, ch 1, sc in front loops evenly around.
